Larger than Life

I have known Steve for 9 years. I interviewed him for the Clinical Nurse Coordinator position in Clinic 2. He talked so much and so fast that it was hard to get a word in. Later he told me it was so we couldn't ask him a lot of questions. This was Steve - always talking, often sarcastic, and very funny. One of my favorite things about Steve was his big heart. Sometimes I would joke with him that his ego is too large for the room, but it was actually his heart that filled it. He never turned down a call for help. He reviewed and edited more resumes than anyone else I know. He liked to see people grow. I often turned to him for advice. We talked about goals and future aspirations. One of the last conversations we had was about his future. He said: "Brought the kids home after their Christmas presentations. It was pretty nice to see them. I never get to do that. I want to be free. Free to make my own decisions, decide my own future, even if it's scary or more risky." I was so happy that he was turning his dream into reality. I hope that up to his last breath he felt free and happy.
